However, and saying that; if you had valuable time you wouldn't be on this forum

Actually I am reading bits and pieces while waiting for some debug code to run up to a breakpoint. My valuable time is better spent reading new stuff, rather than following people too lazy to get up to speed.

So there! wink.gif

(We met in the pub, so I can't be as rude as I might be.)

Oh, it is all part of the game; please, be as rude as you like. Whatever you say I'll forgive you.

Happened again yesterday - 2 drivers sped through at high speed when the green man had been indicating to cross for some 5 seconds or so. All pedestrians were quite shocked. A red light means stop drivers! angry.gif

They don't see the lights - drivers often cruise through the middle red at the Robin Hood too - I guess they are not used to having a set of lights once they are actually 'on' the roundabout.

Shouldn't be driving then.

Exactly!
It's not that they don't see them, it's because they think they can get away with it.

On a similar theme last Friday I came down the bypass from the Robin Hood with the intention of turning right into the town centre . I swung round the roundabout in the full knowledge that my exit light would be red only to find myself stopped at green .
Obviously the sequence has been changed which only goes to show one shouldn't be too complacent when it comes to driving . rolleyes.gif

At both sets of lights the red is there to stop you crossing a flow of traffic entering from the L - ( and at the Sainsbury's roundabout there also happens to be a pedestrian crossing which takes advantage of the red ) - I doubt there are many drivers who gamble with 'getting away with it' in such cases.

At lunchtime on Monday there were several pedestrians 'getting away with it', at the Sainsbury Roundabout when the Southbound traffic lights were clearly Green. I almost had to slow to a halt to let them continue crossing, so it's not always the motorist's fault. rolleyes.gif

I'm sure pedestrians jaywalk all over the place. Good luck to them.

This thread is about 'driving pet hates', with one of those being drivers who ignore or IMHO fail to see the red lights on two of Newbury's roundabouts.

I bet there are!
They can see the lights alright.
If they can't, as I say, they shouldn't be driving.

Don't see that you are diverting at all. The other users are an implicit component of this whole issue. If we really want to be pedantic, someone walking dogs can be termed a driver. I wholly appreciate the concerns about driving without due care and attention. Nevertheless, pedestrians are also enjoined to take due care. The two behaviours I find beyond comprehension here are those who think they can make it, dash out, then once the cars have stopped for them, just amble onwards. Then there are the militant mothers - who use a push chair as a weapon. Both as bad as inattentive drivers in my book.

I have often had near misses just walking across a pelican or Zebra crossing. May I suggest cameras at the crossing to catch dangerous drivers?

Dont mean to hijack this post, but,the light jumping at sainsburys is minor compared to the red light jumping at the Hambridge roads junction with the A4. traffic coming East (from the town side) and wanting to turn right into Hambridge road totally ignore the red light in the morning rush hour and only stop when a vehicle has the cheek to pull out from Firtree lane. This is the junction in my humble opinion jump light should be placed.

Quite agree! I posted a while ago regarding Cyclists. I was leaving Fir Tree Lane on green at the lights and a cyclist come along the A4 from the town and cut right across the front of me I did manage to stop but he carried on; shaking his fist at me as thought it was my fault he jumped the red light??? blink.gif

There has been quite a few conflicts between cars and cycles. I read somewhere that pedestrians and cyclists have a higher priority over others because they are more vulnerable. My boyfriend nearly hit a cyclist when turning into a side street.

Vulnerable or not; like the rest of us they are obliged to keep to the law and abide by the highway code. Isn't it about time we started to charge cyclists for the use of the highway? If we did, they'd need registration plates, so could be identified. That would bring a sharp change in behaviour!

A great idea (along with mandatory insurance perhaps) however a lack of police resources would not make it feasible.
In addition Bicycling is/was (??) a past time for many including children, so should children have to be insured?

While I agree that Identification and some sort of idemnity should be required, realistically I don't think it would ever happen!
