As a now retired police officer, who has franky been called much worse, I cannot get excited by the comments of this obviously abhorrent and out of touch politician. It does say much though our current political leadership, and their opinion of the public service.

I am concerned though about how much information that appears to have bee leaked to the press, as it implies to me, that members of the police service are also playing 'politics', and I ask myself "why" and "for what purpose?".

Following an investigation by Channel 4 news and their broadcast this evening, it appears not all is what it seems and a few people might be having to eat their words.

I am not sure if the murk has cleared or got denser...... Strange the CCTV is made available to a TV programme, but not viewed (apparently) at the time..... I don't believe the media are the proper organisation(s) to investigate right or wrong so as to influence opinion. The facts, plain and simple, are the best tool.

Something is not right, but I remain unsure exactly what.

Cameron instituted an inquiry under Sir Jeremy Heywood to find out what exactly had gone on. How come that bright spark never thought to check the CCTV footage? They know the area is fully camera'd up, yet they didn't think to look? Jog on. And then who leaked the footage, from more than one camera, to the press?

If it is true the 'witness' was lying, the whole episode would be thrown out if it went to court.

When all this first came out the Police Federation were making a VERY big deal about accusing a police officer of lying, that this was some sort of unthinkable crime that would never happen and apologies just were not good enough as the reputation of the force was being tarnished by the very thought. Every single police federation representative interviewed on the airwaves (and there were a lot) was foaming at the mouth demanding some kind of retribution.

Well the fact that a police officer is alleged to have attempted to stitch up a cabinet minister is scary. If they will do it to him what about us?



It wont be long before stuff like this is used to discredit all police without recorded evidence. They are going to have to fit coppers with black box recorders which will cause even more issues when it becomes common knowledge just how little they know of the law they enforce and so make up themselves on a daily basis.

I remember a representative of the Police Federation giving an interview to television where he strongly inferred that Mr Mitchell had been uncooperative in their meeting and had not given a full account of his actions. This jumped up spokesman concluded that the minister had no choice but to resign.

A recording of the meeting that has now come to light shows what the Police Federation said to be untrue. And since when has a staff association decided on who sits in the Cabinet?

Now it appears that the independent witness and the crowd of "visibly shocked" bystanders, have all been invented.

This story is going to run and run.

It might just be worthwhile here to remember that Mitchell admitted to swearing at the police. He had denied it at PMQ's which meant he had to go. And go he did. His initial excuse was that it had been a 'long and frustrating day'. This was later revealed to mean he'd been for a very agreeable lunch at the 'Cinammon Club' during which other diners said he did not look as if he was having a 'long and frustrating' day at all.

It isn't a stitch up , or conspiracy.


A pissed up MP swears at a beligerent copper who then foolishly tries to get the MET to twist the evidence. MP is rebuked & looks for some tit for tat revenge. He gets it.

'Fabricating evidence' isn't a stitch-up? Swearing at the police is in itself enough for him to go, but for then one or more policemen to 'conjurer up' evidence is a conspiracy in my book.
