With respect mate I have bigger front brakes than most supercars, my rear brakes hardly do anything (and trust me I have tested). If I stamp on my brakes hard enough both my rear wheels get ABS'd because the car basically pulls a stoppie.
You are just posting for the sake of causing an argument (on which you are wrong)

I am commenting because you were prepared to drive a car in a condition unsuitable for a public road. Whether you have the driving skills you boast of is irrelevant as clearly your judgement is suspect.

I can promise you there are far more dangerous things that other cars have wrong with them. I had about 95% of my full braking force available. If I had a front out brake issue then no I wouldn't have but a rear brake? come on.. It's just.. driving with a bulb out..

It was not ideal I admit but it got me through the weekend. smile.gif

....and the same for someone I know (not a friend more of an aquaintance) who had illegal tyre tread but had a reciept for 2 tyres on order which got him, guess what - 7 days lee-way.

Now that, I don't believe. Urban myth I would suggest.

Have you ever given a thought what it might be like for a motorcyclist on a dark wet night coming across some IDIOT driving with 'just a bulb out' !! angry.gif

I don't think you should be putting other drivers at risk due to you not keeping your car in a road worthy condition.

Seems to me that this was no worse than ignoring prohibition signs and driving where you aren't permitted - yet we called for the Council to waive the penalty in those cases. Can't see much difference?

I believe driving with defective brakes carries driving endorsements and is prosecuted by the police. I understand the argument about the bridge was about the legitimacy of the issuing the fines by the council.

I suppose being pedantic, for me that's also an issue here. Superficially, the construction and use regulations seem pretty clear and they have the force of law via road traffic acts. However, as it is almost impossible to determine the safe construct of every vehicle they are still wide open to interpretation and this is where the defence comes in. That means what appears to be an unsafe situation to a layman actually isn't and so isn't illegal. A good, though broadly untested example is the use of non standard replacement wheels after punctures. When fitted, the vehicle handling characteristics materially change and drivers are honour bound to restrict speeds etc.

They don't itemise the bill, so you get charged for part plus fitting in one. So you have no idea if it is correct or if they are ripping you off.

Oh I see. Are you happy with any work they have done though?
I had mine serviced and MOT'd there last year and all seems OK at a reasonable price.

Well I asked them to fix a knocking noise on my partners 307 and they replaced a ball joint, charged me £100 and its still not fixed. The service seems to have been done, having checked the oil filter, oil and air filter all new.

OK thanks.
I would only go there for service / MOT type stuff. Any work on the car I would take it to Newbury Motors.

I won't be using them again, as they refused to give me the price of the ball joint on its own. I am now going to get the part price from pegeot, the book time for the repair and check they add up. If they don'nt I shall be asking for a refund.

If they haven't fixed the fault then you should be going back to them anyway as you seem to have paid out £100 for nothing.
