A number of us a lot younger than Stephenson wouldn't get in now either!

And the delays continue, they were tailing back to the Greenham Common / Ecchinswell roundabout this morning heading East and as far back as Cheam school heading west and of course absolutely no work at the weekend and they are finishing by 4.30 each day.

Living in the direction of Eccinswell, I've seen a definate increase in the amount of traffic using the back route (Bishops Green/ Ecchinswell etc) to avoid the A339. Understandably but... a new housing estate has been completed at Bishops Green, meaning there is even more traffic using the roads whcih already are full of pot holes.

With the A339 being under construction for the next 50 weeks or so, I can't imagine that the council will be able to even consider resurfacing the top of Ash Road (leading to Ecchinswell) as it will leave commuters with no "plan B" route.

Having an appointment at Basingstoke hospital today I decided to route myself via Tadley in order to avoid this forewarned bottle neck.
So what do they have in the main street ?.........Would you believe road works ?
Conspiracy theories abound . sad.gif

First few days were a bit shaky, but the light sequences seem pretty good now and the delays are much less than I feared. Came home just after 7 this evening and flowed through. Going east just before 8 it looks like the flow is broken up so the Cheam Tractors no longer cause delays. Overall Greenham to clear of Headley is only a couple of minutes longer than before..... No doubt now the road will be blocked solid.....

THIS MORNING. It took me 25 minutes to get from The Ashford Hill Road where it was backed up to heading West to Newbury, traffic heading East was logged up to Ecchinswell / Greenham Roundabout and slow as far as the Burghclere turning. I also noted a significant number of cars now coming out of the the road that emerges from the left Darling Buds pf May Nursery, these cars looked very much like rat runners to me. Yes at 7:15 last night it was clear heading East.

I did see a man in a high Viz jacket this morning !

It seems to be pot luck as to whether the traffic is backed up really badly. Last couple of nights I have sailed through with no issues at all.

You are from the south - - - - maybe use the A34....

I've found that if I try to leave Newbury after 16:30 = serious delays. So last night at 17:50, I gave this route a try and yes it may be a few more miles but the whole journey only took 50 mins dorr to door. So thank you for the tip.

Coming West in the morning, I find that if I hit the lights at 07:30, I'll face one rotation. Prior to that time it's clear - plus, I don't have to deal with the Cheam tractors.

Bringing up an earlier thread - If the will was there, I do not doubt the works could be completed in a lot less than 50 weeks.

As a daily user of the A339 (require dfor work- alternative route much longer), I feel the need to vent about one thing- lane discipline.

I regularly turn from the direction of the New Greenham Business Park along the A339, and then take the left turn towards Thatcham. There are two lanes here- the left hand lane clearly marked for turning left, and the right hand lane for other routes.

I am growing tired of having to sit behind some badly parked driver who is not in the correct lane, preventing me from going on my way.

While we're on the topic too, Pinchington Lane from Thatcham to Newbury just past the Honda/ VW garage, at the Tesco garage the left hand lane is for turning left only! No more carving up please!!!
