QUOTE (Strafin @ May 7 2012, 07:36 PM) Anyone watching BGT at the moment? I think it's a great show but noticed not as many people seem to be talking about it this time, what do you guys think? Any favourites? Talent survives generations. Karaoke does not.

QUOTE (Strafin @ May 7 2012, 07:54 PM) Not a fan then? If contestants were to write an original musical score, or play an instrument well, then I might pay to come and listen.

QUOTE (Newbelly @ May 7 2012, 07:52 PM) Talent survives generations. Karaoke does not. Well it looks like a few will survive then doesn't it? Jonathan and Charlotte are superb and get my vote. It's not just their singing, a guy who thought very little of himself has found his true , publicly acknowledged strength. What do you mean by Karaoke?

QUOTE (John C @ May 7 2012, 09:02 PM) Watched about 10 minutes of the first series of the crap that Simon Cowel and his cronies put out years ago and have not watched one of them since. Same with the garbage they call reality TV Totally agree re reality TV, but you cannot honestly say that all those that have appeared in all the series are crap.

Any favourites? I think we've got a lot of talent in this country, sadly not all appear on such shows. We are a small island with a **** of a lot of talent. A pity the one area we are lacking is the post important; politicians. I think the man with the girl will win it (opera). Where Simon said he should "ditch her".

Same with the garbage they call reality TV Taking both of Simon Cowell's shows - Paul Potts, Susan Boyle, Will Young, Alexandra Burke all world wide stars. Agree some of it is dross (Jedward enyone).

QUOTE (Roger T @ May 7 2012, 11:02 PM) Watched it once. The top TV duo really get on my nerves, so was quick to switch off. Nothing left really on the TV these days, other than talent shows or reality TV shows. Nothing creative or informative. Bring back the Brian Cox series. An entertaining watch, and Mrs T quite fancies him. I would too but, not really my type. He pronounces his "g" all wrong. Aside from that, an intellectual chap. Nothing left really on the TV these days, other than talent shows or reality TV shows. Nothing creative or informative.Really? A somewhat tunnel view is being displayed here. There are plenty of good quality documentaries, comedy, historical, the animal world etc etc. Why do people so often give a blinkered view?. I have lost count of the times I have heard it said a particular music track is crap, when what they really mean is, 'I don't like it, and neither should you!'. Why don't people be honest when they like something that others may not? Would it be that they want to be part of 'the crowd'?

QUOTE (Newbelly @ May 7 2012, 08:59 PM) If contestants were to write an original musical score, or play an instrument well, then I might pay to come and listen. They are not stars at the BGT stage. They are amateurs trying to get a foothold in the business. I forget his name, but recently there was a young lad who sang his OWN song about a girl he fancied but didn't have the bottle to ask her out. He was brilliant. He sang from is heart. I think Simon Cowell is better placed to know a good performer than most. If he wasn't then he wouldn't do what he does.

That is my opinion and I shall hold it till OfCom change the broadcasting regulations. We have Sky, the top package. Not impressed. With the TV that is, not Sky itself.

Simon Cowell can spot which performers will make money. I know it wasn't his doing, but none of the The Spice Girls could actually sing, but that did not stop them from being a very succesful branded product.

Historically, many top pop stars are not particularly good singers. Bono, Jagger, Bowie, Chris Martin, Lennon and McCartney, Simon Le Bon, Thom Yorke, Robbie Williams, Sting, Springsteen, Madonna, etc.
