I like the HoWan on Newtown Road but not sure if they deliver or not.

I think it may be run by the same people as the one in Turnpike (defo used to be).

Try the jungle curry! Now that's magic.

I always tip around 10% too. If you tip when using a regular place they will soon learn and you will benefit from the delivery guys fighting to get your order to you quickly.

Cheers for all replies. My friend ended up driving to get it for us so I didn't need a delivery in the end. Will bear in mind the choices given.

I suggest that it is a risk to ask, considering you seem particular with what you like.

I didn't think I was that particular.....

Oh gee sorry !!! I have never eaten there myself but it was recommended to me for the curry .... I get mine from Hungerford...... wink.gif

Do you use the Chinese opposite Tesco? I sometimes think that theirs is a little bland for my taste. Likewise the Moonlight Indian is not that great either.

Just want to bump this thread. Although I have another job I work at Dominos as well for a bit of extra cash.
You get £6.08 an hour and 80p each delivery (to cover fuel) - Now, for me that about breaks even because of the diesel but it's not much.

As a delivery driver I really appreciate tips because at Dominos you don't get free food or drink, or even ANY discount. So on a 12 hour shift (I normally do 10-15 hour shifts at present. 6 days a week) I have to go up to McDonalds and buy my food. And a meal and a drink and an ice cream for example could easily an hours wage. You might get the odd slice of pizza here and there, when one is made and then when someone goes to deliver it, there's no answer or they can't pay for it, but that's not an every day ocurrance, perhaps once or twice a week. And even then you have to be there a the right time, like conception, if you aren't in there some other chap will be!

When an item is £18.99 and someone says "keep the change" it makes you feel appreciated and valued and I normally do around 20-25 deliveries a night, if everyone tipped £1 that's going to be £100 a week. Or in my case the difference between paying your bills and not. I save all my tips up including any spare fuel money I make, I got about £45 saved up so far after a week but £10 of that is fuel money.
Easily enough to pay for a Thai massage or one of those home-visit ladies.

There are times people give me £1 or £2 extra cash and I always express my gratitude. Some guy even gave me a £10 tip on my first night which was amazing.

Noticeably the people from the more "deprived" (without sounding rude) areas tend to tip more. In a lot of the cases it's the people in appartment/tower flalts who will tip you and those in the fancy houses will stand there expecting their £1.20 back.

I know some of the drivers will short changes people eg if it's £1.70 change they will give £1 but I always give the correct amount.
Anyway just my view on it.

Well Jaycakes I am pleased to hear the undercarriage is taken care of.
As fer Pizza delivery. Sorrento is a long way . I do have roads to avoid.
Sometimes it is quicker and less bumpy to walk. But I won't vote Green.

Minimum wage and use your own transport? You would be better off shelf-filling at Tesco......

And you need to read this re mileage allowance.

I'm aware of that but didn't realise it extended out to deliveries too.
I do around 100 miles a night, done 700 miles so far.

I agree the money is crap and I could do other things but I meet people doing this and see friends so eh.

Could you possibly help advise on what I would need to do? It says to just keep mileage records which I haven't done as yet..

I'm no tax expert, but it seems if the 'mileage allowance' you receive is less than the amount allowed by HMRC you can claim back the difference.

Keep a log of each journey, any over 2 miles (80p) will enable you to claim back, any under 2 miles will be an excess so will go against the overall totals. Keep a tab on what HMRC say the allowance is as it does sometimes change.... I think it is 40p/mile at the moment.

Do you work PAYE or self employed?

Make sure though that you keep your tips record in a different book to your mileage records though as you might find that one cancels out the other if HMRC see what you get. They are probably already trying to work out who you are after your helpful information posted here.

It's nice that you are all so concerned about Jay's tax return!

It's PAYE. When you say "each journey", like I said I do around 80-100 miles a night (the lowest I've ever done was 58) but this was multiple stop/start trips, the longest journeys being to the far side of Thatcham at around 9 miles return. Can I claim for the overall mileage or does it have to be each "delivery" if that makes sense.

That is best asked of HMRC. I think you can ask online and I know the phone line does not insist you give your personal ID.... Correct re the tips, to be precise. You should declare them as earnings.....

On jobs where tips are 'normal' - hotel, bar, hairdresser; the tax code is adjusted to reflect a nominal sum. If this criteria is used for food delivery there is no need to declare the tips you get.

But as a 2nd job that may not happen.....
Esp if the extra money affects the contribution level (same for NI). HMRC will only know your employers, not the role you perform....

Your issue is peanuts in tax terms, but should you be unlucky enough to get 'looked at' in a random check then they can be quite inquisitive and go back for 7 years.....
