Happened in Oxfordshire, court case heard in Swindon, doesn't seem to have much to do with Newbury.

Ah, so it's one of those tenuous links similar to those that Radio Berkshire, in fact most BBC local news like to use so often.

Was this like the very nearly front page article about the police officer from West Berkshire who was imprisoned quite recently?

When you read through to about the 3rd paragraph it became apparent that she did indeed live in WB but was actually a police person in Sussex or somesuch!

Oh well I s'pose that this had at least SOME local resonance!

And I believe she had only moved into W Berks after her arrest - no other connection.......

"NEWBURY’S former top cop, Chief Supt Jim Trotman, torched his own car and tried to blame his love rival before making a fraudulent insurance claim, a jury heard today (Monday)."

The clue was in the word Newbury !

I think comments on two elements may be getting crossed?

The opening post, and the Daily Mail article are completely free of any mention of Newbury. Post #4 does mention that the Supt is a man so there's no reason why it would be a woman from Sussex. Turin's quote comes from the NWN story which was put up after the thread was started so isn't really a fair one to use.

Apologies Strafin, I think 2 wires crossed here.

The supt mentioned was indeed a male and was the area police boss for some years a little while ago (I think we're on the 2nd since) although I believe the relevance of the local link (and therefore local press-coverage) was being questioned due to the location of the alleged incident, the supt's then-posting and the court case all being outside of West Berks.

The police person I was talking about was featured in the local press a little while ago and had some VERY large articles with headlines such as 'local police officer jailed' and on further investigation it was apparent that the individual was from a police force such as Sussex, the offence(s) had been committed there and the police person only lived in this area.

I suppose it was an easy one for the person that wrote the article on the supt.

Can you cut and paste from the national newspaper websites........?

Former Newbury police area commander arrested
Thu, March 04 2010

NEWBURY’S former Local Police Area Commander, Jim Trotman, has been arrested and suspended from duty.
Thames Valley Police spokesman David Staines confirmed today (Thursday): “A senior police officer from Thames Valley Police was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, insurance fraud and perverting the course of justice.

is perhaps relevant !!

It would appear that a jury of his peers decided he was not guilty
