QUOTE (pinkfluffyclouds @ Aug 23 2010, 09:00 AM) with the temporary traffic lights... Presumably only after 7? The normal lights have been operational whenever I've been through there. It would be nice if they linked the crossing lights with the roundabout lights, though I doubt if they will. It's pretty frustrating sitting at a red light at the empty crossing and watching the lights on the roundabout change to green and back to red.

QUOTE (JeffG @ Aug 23 2010, 01:32 PM) [Edit: this is a reply to Darren's post] Yes I suppose I could have been clearer - as you realised I meant the crossing by the pedestrian exit from Sainsbury's.
The crossings on the roundabout have push buttons for pedestrians (do they actually achieve anything?), too, so I am sure it is technologically possible to integrate the independent crossing with the main lights in some way. yes they do - they make it safe for people who want to cross the road.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Aug 23 2010, 02:33 PM) yes they do - they make it safe for people who want to cross the road. How do push buttons which as far as I can see don't actually do anything, make it safer when the lights will change following the normal roundabout sequence anyway?

QUOTE (Iommi @ Aug 22 2010, 11:08 AM) First: who said I did? I'm talking a specific piece of road where the powers that be have decided to confuse the public...again . YOU suggested this was the way to behave on the road! It's written quite plainly in black & white which lane to be in - where's the confusion? QUOTE (Iommi @ Aug 22 2010, 11:08 AM) Second: If it is that bad for you, I suggest getting a car! I do have one and the driving you suggest people to use annoys me just as much in that!

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 07:59 PM) YOU Exactly, I said you have to not I have to. QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 07:59 PM) suggested this was the way to behave on the road! I never recommended anything. QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 07:59 PM) It's written quite plainly in black & white which lane to be in - where's the confusion? Who said anything about being confused? QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 07:59 PM) I do have one and the driving you suggest people to use annoys me just as much in that! Never suggested anything, only that when it is grid locked, anything goes.

QUOTE (Iommi @ Aug 23 2010, 08:06 PM) Exactly, I said you have to not I have to. You used "you" in the first person. (Post 58) QUOTE (Iommi @ Aug 23 2010, 08:06 PM) I never recommended anything. Again post 58 "you have to" (OK this time in the third person you can't have it both ways - which is it?) QUOTE (Iommi @ Aug 23 2010, 08:06 PM) Who said anything about being confused? Post 60 QUOTE (Iommi @ Aug 23 2010, 08:06 PM) Never suggested anything, only that when it is grid locked, anything goes. Contradicting yourself there. Post 21 covers the lot!

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 08:16 PM) You used "you" in the first person. (Post 58) That is your interpretation of an ambiguous statement. QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 08:16 PM) Again post 58 "you have to" (OK this time in the third person you can't have it both ways - which is it?) 'You have to' is not a recommendation; it is an observation in the second person plural. QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 08:16 PM) Post 60 OK, the council have decided to confuse the driver by changing the layout. Even if the layout is visible, this still will confuse because it is a change. Sadly, most drivers aren't as observant and brilliant as you at driving and all the discipline that involves. Fortunately, you and some others are very good drivers and riders and can avoid accidents when other useless drivers get it wrong. QUOTE (Biker1 @ Aug 23 2010, 08:16 PM) Contradicting yourself there. Post 21 covers the lot! I am if you don't understand that I was joking. I thought it might make a change from all the posts describing wonderful lane discipline. Although there have been times in the past where I might have done it on occasion when I have cocked-up. I doubt few haven't if they were to be honest. Especially, if you have over 120bhp from the twist grip!

QUOTE (Darren @ Aug 21 2010, 04:50 PM) I see the lanes have changed coming from Bear Lane to Mill Lane/Sainsbury's.
On the Bear Lane lights, if you want A339 North or Mill Lane, it's the left lane. If you want Sainsbury's or A339 South, it's the right-hand lane.
Before, Mill lane and Sainsbury's was considered all one exit so the left lane in Bear Lane was correct.
I can hear the horns sounding already... I totally agree - they have got this completely WRONG! - Mill Lane is a left turn off of Kings Road and not directly off of the roundabout, therefore people were perfectly correct in using the left lane to exit onto Kings Road and then take the first left onto Mill Lane. However it would seem the town planners have got this wrong creating more confusion as the left lane now is only for Mill Lane which is not an exit off of the roundabout!

However (devil's advocate hat on here) the right hand lane is more in a direct line with the road down to Sainsbury's. From the left lane (with the previous convention), you had to deliberately move over to the right, i.e. change lanes, to avoid traffic waiting to turn left into Mill Lane (possible held up by the crossing) when continuing on to Sainsbury's. All in all, I think the new arrangement is better - I followed that today turning right from the A339, and didn't get into any arguments . In fact I got away more quickly since the right lane at the second lights was empty.

I can't see why anyone would get it wrong.
