1. the LH lane markings did change. 2.if you are in the LH lane you will move over to your right as you follow the markings and have to join the RH lane which later splits into two lanes.

I was simply taking the piss out of people's apparent sanctimony. The chances are, the mistakes that are made by the good drivers, go unrealised.

I might be wrong, but I can't remember any one being killed on the Robin Hood Giratory.

No one has been killed in the 'pedestrian area' by a driver ignoring the signs either. Sauce for the goose and all that...

Of course - I've seen many on the roads throughout UK by drivers doing far worse than simply failing to heed signs. Indeed even in the pedestrain area by vehicles that are apparently 'safe' i.e. a taxi and two busses.

Oh please forgive me I thought when you said "I was simply taking the piss out of people's apparent sanctimony" because I had made comments about these "mistakes" that maybe I was included in the people you were talking about. Also thank you so much for putting the link into your reply for me as I was not sure how I was going to scroll up and find Post 37 wink.gif

Surely you can not expect traffic to run as smoothly as it would without the roadworks taking place? I was very pleased this morning to see that they have FINALLY painted the lanes coming from Sainsburys to the roundabout so that each lane filters into two lanes rather than people believing that the inside lane should filter into three lanes (what logic in their thinking there I don't understand) and nearly taking the side of my car off. So if you read this the old woman in the blue Ford Focus with road rage I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE !!.

Had a look today and as you leave the traffic lights as you come away from Sainsbury's the arrows show that the R/H lane is for straight on and the L/H lane is for going left AND straight on. Presume if you are in the L/H lane you then have the choice of straight on or turn left at the roundabout so it in fact filters into THREE lanes.

Or does anyone read it differently?

Yes that's how I read the road markings, but there is white zig-zaggy lines between the two lanes leading up to the roundabout which to me mark out the split between L/H lane going left and R/H lane going straight on or right. I also spotted this morning that in the R/H lane they have smudged out the right arrow as it used to show straight on and right, not sure what the purpose of that would be

The 'left or straight on' arrows in the left lane are misleading, since there is no lane marking after that that allows the left lane to to move safely over to the straight on lane without the risk of collision.

I think they gave the arrow painting and the lane marking to two different people working from different scripts smile.gif

I see the lanes have changed coming from Bear Lane to Mill Lane/Sainsbury's.

On the Bear Lane lights, if you want A339 North or Mill Lane, it's the left lane. If you want Sainsbury's or A339 South, it's the right-hand lane.

Before, Mill lane and Sainsbury's was considered all one exit so the left lane in Bear Lane was correct.

I can hear the horns sounding already...

Anyone turning right from the south to go to Sainsbury's (like me) isn't going to know that, are they, and will cross to the nearside lane at the second set of lights as usual. Unless they somehow make it clear that they should use the right hand lane from now on. I admit, the road markings on the Mill Lane side now mean you have to pull over to go to Sainsbury's.

I'm sure all will become clear eventually, without them bothering to put up the usual signs "road layout changed" (too much effort I expect).

That road is so often jammed; you have to take what ever lane you can get. Again, it is fiddling with convention.

First: who said I did? I'm talking a specific piece of road where the powers that be have decided to confuse the public...again. Second: If it is that bad for you, I suggest getting a car! wink.gif
