I go to which ever lane has the smallest queue, then nail it out of the stocks to get the jump on the rest!

If you're serious, I don't think I want to share a road with you.

All the time, and they are always empty.

But they never do. Another case in point is people in London Road (West) taking the right hand lane at the Robin Hood lights when they intend to go left under the flyover instead of up the A339. And the road markings there couldn't be much clearer.

agreed they are clear enough just that they are not sensible. if you get in the LH lane you still have to come across - so why not get in the correct lane in the first place !. also you have other drivers who are reluctant to let you filter into the lane. all in all the original lane markings ( where you entered and stayed in the LH lane -ant the Hungerford drivers later branched off was the sensible option. Bring those markings back- and while you are at it open up Wharf rd and stop all that waiting to get over the parkway bridge.

You see all those on here who talk about getting in the wrong lane being OK are just the ones I was referring to in the Speed Camera thread who cause more accidents than speeding ever does but because there are no "Careless Driving Cameras" they get away with it. (If they don't have an accident which they inevitably will!)

I couldn’t agree more. I travel along the A339 between the Sainsbury’s roundabout and the Robin Hood roundabout as I am travelling to Hungerford and so am taking the inside lane. Obviously this is the busiest lane so a lot of inconsiderate people go in the outside lane and then “cut in” at the top of the road. I am speechless when I hear people moaning that the people in the correct lane are “reluctant to let you filter into the lane”. If you were in the correct lane to start with you would not need to “filter” into the lane anyway. In my experience I don’t usually have a choice as people come tearing up my outside, put on their indicator and regardless of whether I am still moving or not PUSH in front of me. It is bullying in its finest form.

I was very pleased this morning to see that they have FINALLY painted the lanes coming from Sainsburys to the roundabout so that each lane filters into two lanes rather than people believing that the inside lane should filter into three lanes (what logic in their thinking there I don't understand) and nearly taking the side of my car off. So if you read this the old woman in the blue Ford Focus with road rage I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE !!.

I looked again this morning at the new road markings and just after the traffic lights the left hand lane has straight on and left with the right hand lane also straight on so nothing has changed angry.gif

You just have to believe that these arogant, selfish drivers meet a similar minded driver in these circunmstances and they wreck each others cars.

Oh when I travelled along that route they had not finished past the traffic lights so I can't comment on that until I see it. Seems odd they have sorted out the problem (well probably not if what people on here are saying that they just go in the lane with the least traffic) before the lights but this will again lead to uncertainty after the lights !! dry.gif

I purposely get in the wrong lane just to annoy people that always get in the correct lane and never make a wrong choice of lane when driving; always perfectly. It's not fair that people can drive sensibly and never make any mistakes, while I'm merely human and sometimes do! sad.gif

It takes a lot of hard work to be perfect !!! tongue.gif

You can not tell me that everyone that wrong lanes it every single day on the stretch of road I drive are visitors who are "making a mistake" and are possibly confused as to which lane they want to be in rather than the majority are actually locals who SHOULD know which lane they actually should to be in but are trying to save five minutes by tearing up the empty lane ????? I find that very, very hard to believe. unsure.gif

One thing that is rather silly is when two lanes have to merge into one (e.g. lane closure), people are reluctant to carry on to the merge point, but merge early, thereby wasting road space and increasing the hold up. Then people who merged early will do their utmost to prevent late mergers from getting in.

I have to admit I am a bit chicken myself, because I merge early too, knowing that I will incur the wrath of drivers already in the single lane by the merge point. smile.gif But I try not to get cross with late mergers wink.gif

There's a difference between "making a mistake" and "purposely".

The point I was trying to make is that there is a H ell of a lot of bad driving out there that causes many accidents and sometimes serous injury and death. (So I am surprised you can be so flippant about it.)
Yes we all make mistakes but the majority of it is deliberate.
However the emphasis is nearly always on speeding as being the cause of accidents.
I suppose it is because speeders are the easiest to nick and/or fine.

I was simply taking the piss out of people's apparent sanctimony. The chances are, the mistakes that are made by the good drivers, go unrealised.

I might be wrong, but I can't remember any one being killed on the Robin Hood Giratory.
