I thought you meant homes, until I saw that. And that nasty site tries to open a popup window (blocked by Firefox).

How else do you explain it?

40 - 50 somethings getting divorced. Sudden need for 2 houses, where once, one would do. Old people, they all need shooting.

Sounds like you might need to explain the film plot to him.

Why, did you have trouble understanding it?

Going back to an earlier comment while agreeing that the current social engineering trend that require these houses to be built , with no new industry coming to the area that will require a skilled workforce to move to Newbury who will be able to afford these houses the effect surely will be to drive the numbers of people requiring assistance up and increase our council taxes further.

Exactly my point, who are these houses being built for? Where are the families coming from?
This project is to satisfy a Government directive and will have little or no benefit to the people of Newbury.

This project is to satisfy a Government directive and will have little or no benefit to the people of Newbury.

Everyone is writing as if these houses are to be built next week - in fact the target of 10,500 is to meet the anticipated housing demand within the area up until 2026. They won't build them all if there is no demand - if there are no customers wanting them the builders won't even think about building them.

Part of the aim of the government in setting these targets is to reduce demand and hence reduce house price inflation - but there has to be enough demand to get them built.

I would guess that most of them will be filled by people who are living in West Berkshire now - living with their parents, perhaps away at University, many still at school.

A major story on the BBC news today - fewer houses were built in 2009/10 than in any non-war year since 1923.
