A couple of interesting articles about the effect of Brexit on VAT are the following:

https://www.accountancyage.com/2018/04/10/m...-uk-tax-policy/

The above is bang up to date and talks about all different types of tax.

The article below is slightly less recent but focuses specifically on VAT.

Thanks for that, I've already had several long tedious meetings with my tax specialist who basically said "wait and see", as I'm now certain we won't be leaving at all I've left it on the back burner for now. Thanks anyhow.

I agree. At least be honest about it all though. Tell the electorate that we no longer live in a democracy. It's not how you vote... it's what we think. Most people just don't care anymore. Sad.

I think if people had been honest earlier we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Time spent with a good tax adviser is never time wasted.

Have you had several long and tedious planning meetings with your tax advisor too then about the VAT implications of Brexit? laugh.gif

Vote Labour. If they offer this, I predict a landslide and I reckon if the Tories do the arithmetic they’ll be offering a referendum soon as they’ll be destroyed in a GE.

We live in the same democracy that we have lived in for hundreds of years. Our parliament make our laws and the lords over see that. We elect officials to parliament to represent us. Just because you feel they are doing it badly, it doesn't mean democracy has died.

I pay the right amount of tax, not too much and not too little. It's a bit like the three bears. And everything I do pay is all legal and above board, that's why I have an adviser. It's all about being tax efficient. Oh, and you spelt sovereignty wrongly as well. Only to be expected from one such as yourself I suppose. So what are you up to today then strafin? Care homes again is it? See if we can find some little old lady to sneer at and humiliate for her lack of tech knowledge? Must make you feel so manly.

If we vote for an issue and that vote is ignored then yes, you are entitled to believe democracy is on the ropes. Those who voted to leave (the majority) will be feeling about now that trusting the people they elected to parliament to represent them have not been doing what they were sent to that place for. I predict a massively lower turnout at the next election.

One or two rather obvious faults with this observation really. The main one being that the referendum would come before the election so making that issue moot. Secondly labour is split all the way to the top on the referendum issue, not good for the party at all. Thirdly, watching you attempt to 'do' politics is like watching a T Rex trying to clap hands, it's a rather humorous spectacle.

No not a baby boomer... just someone who has some intelligence. You sound jealous. Stuck in your boring sad job where the government milk you at source. Why not use the tax laws? You'd be a bit daft if you didn't.... oh I think we have hit the nail on the head. Strafin is "daft". 😂

Labour are overwhelmingly in favour of a second referendum as a party. It isn’t split but obviously there are exceptions, notably Corbyn.

Ahem!
"Which doesn't mean Labour's shadow cabinet is yet foursquare behind it: there are probably ten of Jeremy Corbyn's most senior colleagues who, like him, have doubts about whether Labour should become the referendum party."
"Labour split over second referendum after Barry Gardiner claims 'we are not a Remain party'"
Then there's this,
"Exactly the same proportion of voters believe there should be a second referendum on Brexit as think the UK should leave the EU without a deal, according to the latest Opinium poll for the Observer.

The survey shows the country split down the middle, with 43% supporting a delay to Brexit in order to hold a second public vote and 43% believing the UK should simply quit without any agreement with Brussels."

And to round off for now as

"Jeremy Corbyn was warned by Labour party chairman Ian Lavery that he risked going down in history as the leader who split his party if he backed another referendum on Brexit, in an extraordinary outburst during a meeting of the shadow cabinet last week, according to senior party sources."

Looks a bit 'splittish' to me.
