....and therein lies the rub; can't have your cake and eat it. Mind, with the likes of Sir Philip Green and Fred Goodwin etc.etc. around, we don't even get to see the cake.

That is the paradox and therefore there no such thing as a free lunch. If we want stuff to be cheap we need a cheaper labour force. Of course, the problem here is the tax yield from a cheaper labour force is lower, so you need a bigger labour force to raise the tax receipt.

The public gets what the public wants.

And post Osbourn where we've flogged off the last remaining UK businesses, the high end jobs are now elsewhere, so the home labour force becomes low wage too.

It's rather ironic that post Brexit, immigrants of all types still want to come here. Arguably their continuing attempts at entry and continued presence here is indicator that Brexit is seen as giving a far better economic future than Europe.

It could just be that the average none English war refugee has never heard of Brexit.

Most of these are not war torn refugees, that's just a liberal mantra for the lazy minded. Most are economic migrants.

Regardless of their status, we have welcomed a large amount of migrants into this country. Most are to help underpin out economy and some we haven't accounted for; however, given the choice of poverty or taking my chances with trying to make it in the west, I know what I would do.

Yes, that's a big possibility. Nonetheless, those that have been interviewed tend to be quite literate. I'd argue that if they had no inkling of which state to aim for, they'd be more than happy to stay anywhere in mainland Europe; or why bother with yet another difficult sea crossing?

Additionally, there doesn't seem to be any mass exit from the UK by recent immigrants. Indeed, they seem to be more worried that we will want them to leave. Fortunately for the sake of our health service and our home agriculture to instance just two areas, they seem to be staying.

If they are refugee they would have have stopped where they were first safe, in other words the first country they got to. Not slogged cross half Europe!. How difficult is that for some people to understand.

Presumably dear old Norman Tebbitt's dad would have been an economic migrant; getting on his bike and looking for work.

I don't object t economic migrants, why would I? My grandfather was one (after a fashion) What really annoys me is the liberals tagging everyone who wants in as a refugee!

The flip side of all that is we offer fewer places for refugees compared to other European countries despite being partly responsible for their plight.

If you have some independent data that demonstrates the nationalities of the people arriving in Europe please point to it. If more than 50% of them are from non war zones then I am happy to accept I'm wrong.

You need clarity to define a war zone? Ok, it's not Market Place on a Friday night.

"They are refugees when they leave a war zone for Europe - but if they move from one EU country to another because there is a better chance of finding work or a prosperous future more generally, surely they have become economic migrants, too?
And if they become economic migrants when they move from Greece to Germany, are they not also economic migrants when they move from countries like Turkey or Jordan, where they are safe even if living in difficult conditions, to Europe?"
