Am ranting as so annoyed !!!! We all got woken by the CUSTOM GROUP sky entertainment solutions at 8am this morning. They were using a hammerdrill and it vibrated through the entire house waking us all up. We work so a Sunday is the only time we get a lay in and we dont lay in til late !!!!!! Just a bit of consideration would be nice though !!!!!!!!

Is they not a law against working that early on a sunday? Or at least against making that sort of noise? I know sites dont open on Sundays, shops arent allowed to open until 10am on Sundays so does this not apply accross the board?

Difficult ain't it! Apparently we wanted Sunday trading - this is part of that result. Appreciate Sunday is your rest day - but think of those who do work and take another day off in the week? The real issue is the noise - and I suspect a little more care on the part of the contractor doing the work would have helped - even if they'd warned you this might happen. In many places I've lived in Europe, there is a rule 'no noise of any kind between 11.00pm and 7.30am, which seems to work. Would be interesting to see what would happen in Newbury 11.30pm Saturday nights. Anyway - suspect all you are asking for is a little more consideration by others - something in very short supply these days.

Yes it would have been nice, consideration whats that ?

I know what you are saying, my husband used to work nights and he had to put up with peopple going about their everyday lives during the day whilst he was trying to sleep. When he would come home on one of his shifts, at 4am, he was quiet (but that probably because he knew i would go mad if he wasnt :-) !!! ).

This morn was an interesting one as its a private home but a contractor coming out to that home, i was just surprised that they would do that, that early on a sunday, if they had to work, i was surprised it wasnt between 10am & 4pm. Didnt help that the neighbours also had a bonfire party the night before until gone 2am !!

Makes me recall many years ago my neighbours daughter informing us that ,owing to her parents being away , she was having a party the coming Saturday evening and would like to offer her apologies for any disruption to our sleep .

10 pm came and went as we trundled off to bed commenting on how well behaved these youngsters are and "nothing too" this party lark .

Midnight and all hades lets lose, the walls reverberate with the sounds of some pop group endeavoring to murder any semblance of musical talent , boys stood outside with lager cans uttering vacuous profanities and scantily dressed girls running a very real risk of catching pneumonia ( to quote one of mother's home spun philosophies ).

Morning brings the aftermath , bodies strewn around the garden , items of clothing ( some personal ) hanging from bushes .
Well at least the music has stopped , it is Sunday and we can rest before the onslaught of the coming week .Daughter's parents arrive home from their weekend away and heap vast quantities of sympathy on us for their little girls antics , ( not the word I would have used ).

The point to all this is that some activities can't be conducted without making a noise , and if we are pre warned then it is acceptable , if it is suddenly thrust on you without warning then it becomes not so .
One would have thought that the contractor concerned in this case would have at least have the common decency to inform the various neighbours of his intent before embarking on his modus operandi .

You can always get your own back by planting a leylandii tree in front of their dish . wink.gif

Great response, particularly last comment. Always best served well after the event and cold!

Hi Bill1 - the early morning wake up would have almost been ok if my son had, had a early kick off but it wasn't until 2pm :-) but no - he played at the Barlows Ground in Tadley on Sun against winklebury wizards, they drew 2-2, my son scored one. Was a good match, but chilly !! How did your son do?
