QUOTE (Petra @ Apr 28 2015, 07:22 PM) Dear Independents’,
I admire your zeitgeist, but sadly misplaced. Independents on here are wasting their time because they are never going to be satisfied. To achieve certain goals in politics you need the collective spirit of those that require change. Independent’s are just a bunch of free-thinking-individuals that either work on behalf of the ordinary people or with a sense of justice (falsely). To get things done, you need obedience and loyalty to a figurehead. Politicians or even people who work for bureaucratic organizations such as a councils’, need to be under the whip so that everybody is singing from the same song sheet. Council can’t or shouldn’t elect freethinking do-gooders, who in the end will mess things up and create havoc for everybody. Parties have a specific-agenda, which needs to be followed, implemented with precision and a degree of strict-collective control. They are there for the majority and that means making hard uncompromising decisions.
You can’t have people willy-nilly challenging every decision that their masters have ordered them to carry out. Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting that there can’t be free thinkers under an umbrella of a controlled unit, but eventually a decisive decision needs to be taken and then followed loyally through.
At this election, whether it be General or local, there will only be one winner and that will be a party machine. Independents could be a spanner thrown in the works, which could cause confusion and no overall-winner. This would be no good for communities. Do you really want this?
Yours, Petra. Yeah we don't want none of this old "Electing a person to represent you in Parliament do we" We want them to do as they are told by "those who were born to lead" don't we? Have you noticed the Anagram? Petra = "ePrat" very apt!

Have you noticed the Anagram? Petra = "ePrat" very apt! How very true! Why on earth would we want anyone seriously debating the issues of the day in the House, or Council Chamber and after hearing what had been said deciding how to proceed. The very idea!! Goodness Cognosco, you'll be suggesting democracy next!

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Apr 28 2015, 09:17 PM) Yes my dear, but, all change starts with a seed, a seed of truth or a seed of liberty. In this case it's a seed of change. If it is watered by the rains of discontent and fed with the very essence of freedom from oppression it can only, nay, WILL only grow to a veritable giant of reason and truth within the fallow mind of such as you where mere dross is substituted for the thought and dreams that will one day topple the establishment and shake society to it's core. Then, and only then will we have people to lead us whome we can truly point at and hold our children up to see them and exclaim "there my child, there is a being of worth, emulate him and be proud for there is the way of truth"! Dear je suis Charlie, Precisely, and that seed started after the war and continued when we joined the Common Market. We then grew and developed into what we’ve got now. But the process doesn’t end there. The truth depends on one’s point of view. But to many, that truth and direction is the European Union, and that can only be achieved by the collective response of Europhile parties. je suis Charlie, je suis! Yours, Petra

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Apr 28 2015, 11:46 PM) No-wonder they have so many enemies in political circles! Rational people just need a powerful argument presented. You don't need whipping if the mission and the case has been adequately made. If it hasn't then free thinking do gooders have their place to hold people to account. The current version of 'adversarial politics' we have in West Berks has failed. We need sensible direction; not robust whips. Dear Mr Capp, I do like your idyllic utopian vision. I presume it is hidden in the corner of your mind, ready to be released onto the world? What you say would be superb if we were living in a world of intelligence, instead of witless wanderings by the walking-lifeless. Whips are necessary to make sure those that swear allegiance to their masters obey them. Those that flounder are quickly sent to Coventry and expunged. Rational people are few and far between, I presume you knew this and you were just posturing. Yours, Petra

Not at all; if you need whips then your policy is more than likely wrong, but I believe governments have at times thrashed through policy to save face, rather than do what is right.

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Apr 29 2015, 07:08 PM) I am Charlie, I am. ? Illiterate in French AND English. How quaint. Dear TM, How quaint of you, my dear. You’ve obviously never been to a “Charlie” rally then. Among the French speakers and placards there were English ones with “I am Charlie, I am”. But according to my girlfriends, when I mentioned your quaint post, they said I shouldn’t be too hard on the likes of you. Most probably you have never been outside Newbury, they said, or not even been allowed a pass, and of course a poor education probably contributed to such a response. Where there is a forum there is also a mixture of the educated and the unschooled, which is called democracy. We are not living in a country that practice’s partition, thank God! So we should welcome such picturesque posts from the likes of your good-self. A tolerant society should always be preferred to the more harsher one’s, wouldn’t you say? Of course you would, turkey’s don’t agree on Christmas! Yours, Petra

Dear Mr Capp, Truly? So if one’s policy is right, explained properly, then all MPs and people of the world should fall on their knees and be delighted with what is put before them? Nobody would dissent to something that is correctly made and explained and therefore you wouldn’t need whips? So ideological differences wouldn’t exist if you explain things to everybody’s liking? Amazing. So that is where the parties have gone wrong then, my dear. You are wasted on here. Do the members on here realize what a gem they have before them? Form a party Mr Capp and I am sure millions will line up behind you to cheer you to the rafters. Priceless, absolutely bloody priceless! I will hand it to you, Mr Capp, you were right when you said “you can’t educate pork”. Yours, Petra

I will hand it to you, Mr Capp, you were right when you said “you can’t educate pork" It seems you are incapable of being civil unless you are engaging with someone with which you agree. Perhaps after your relentless rudeness, sarcasm and hyperbole, you might find some time to debate? But I won't hold my breath, although I suspect you wish I would, such is the length of time we might have to wait.

Dear TM, You are totally correct with the actual wording, but I was paraphrasing. A long word, I know, but it means I was reworking an old phrase. Maybe a concept, or a word, or a meaning of a word, you have never heard of before? Yours, Petra
