Did anyone else see the A34/Boat story appear on two different pages in last week's Newbury Weekly News?

I thought I might mention my first Scam mail from China. Posted in the UK.
Space filling is what I do. The last Nigerian letter was about 15 years ago.
This latest one is for about $17.375 million. Lodged in a bank in Hong Kong.
The depositor with the same name as mine died intestate in an accident in mainland China.
The bank is using Heir tracing companies which has proved unsuccessful.
Anyway after a 50/50 split I was sworn to secrecy. Well after a chuckle over the phone with brother
about the letter. I think the conclusion was keep the dosh under the mattress.

Clearly the A34 issues are so important they need twice as much space. Come on west berks, ha - fix it before the whole paper is devoted to A34 issues

I was just about to post this myself.
Does ANYBODY AT ALL now PROOFREAD the Newbury Weekly News??
You would not in fact have to even have read much of the second duplicate to see it was a duplicate!
This newspaper has gotten so sloppy it hurts.
I know spelling was a problem but this one takes the biscuit.
I hope we don't see it a third time on Thursday but nothing would surprise me now...

Yes, the readership. Why pay somebody to proofread when you can get monkey's do it for nothing. Let us thank NWN for being thoughtful enough to give us something to talk about on their forum. Thank you. Now back to the land of OZ.

Jonathan, instead of habitually whining and whingeing on here about the NWN, why not call Brien Beharrell on 01635 564526, the Editorial Director, and tell him what you think, letting us know how you get on? You obviously feel so strongly about the matter, give it a go.

I've seen it get worse over time, but that one struck me as just terrible. Even worse, was the fact someone had taken the trouble to think up two different headlines without even realising it was the same article.
But seriously, if I made a mistake like that in my own job i would be kicked out the door pretty quickly. Their job is to stop this type of thing happening.

Do you know what forums are for? They are for people to give their opinions, debate and yes, even whine and whinge (which most people do on here anyway). Without that you've got a dead forum. Forums are about expressing oneself to a wider audience.
Relieving ones grievances on an open forum will do more good that either a private phone call or an email or letter; as all three can be easily ignored. Also; putting it on a forum will allow like minded people - who have the same concerns about the NWN's or whatever - to form a stronger voice than ones individual voice.
Finally; any good newspaper would welcome their readers concerns and if they are justified and deal with them in an appropriate manner so that they can present a better paper (unless of course the paper has a monopoly and isn't worried what their readership thinks).

In the case of this one, Glenn, I would say principally to entertain and amuse. Might account for how so few people actually bother posting but just prefer to sit viewing instead. Anyway, you're doing great, boys, keep it up!

Hugh - can I just take issue with your naming of individuals: It doesn't seem quite right naming individuals as you are. If someone posts under a psudonym isn't it generally the done thing to respect their choice of anonymity and use that name even when you know their real-world identity?

I don't see how anyone who was interested could have missed it, since there was a link, which was also re-quoted. In any case, the whole point of the comment was that the same piece of text had been included twice in the article.
