QUOTE (Phil_D11102 @ Sep 8 2021, 05:49 PM) What is my beef, well...
Hearing bull**** stories about when the cruise would deploy, and how the women would paint peace symbols made of paint and porridge on the windscreens of the vehicles when the travelled at 5 mph or less.
When I said that that was not true, what they actually did was throw stuff at the moving vehicles I first heard yes it was, but then another person said no, one time someone did throw a object filled with paint from a bridge, but it never happened again.
When I said it wasn't true, they asked what proof did I have. I said the USAF, as I seen it myself. Before I can say that at two events during the 20th anniversary of the Greenham Trust several other women said they liked to "mark" the vehicles.
I was shouted down, asked to leave a public event, and was told that we didn't want you American's back when the base was opened, and we don't want you hear now. So much for public event..
I would like to post images of "marked" vehicles, but I cannot do so here.
Shame the modern historical narrative came from the women who actually threw the balloons, then deny it happened. These women were there too though weren't they? Who's to say eho's memory is correct? I have an old friend who worked there & his phrase at the time for the peace women was "pond life". |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Feb 26 2021, 10:24 AM) Assuming all of my comment falls into the "daft" category, I thought the NHS was? That is certainly the pretext on which Boris and the Buffoons have based their whole strategy. By saying “and the buffoons”, you imply Johnson isn’t a buffoon. That’s clearly nonsense. But to the point, the NHS isn’t overwhelmed because of the lockdown. But much non urgent treatment is curtailed. Example is that following my cardiac arrest in June, my “six month” check is taking place in March. This is what the lockdown is all about. Keeping infections down to a level that the NHS can treat the worst affected and still function, albeit at a much reduced level. |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Feb 9 2021, 10:43 AM) Watch my lips young man. ALL viruses mutate which is why they are so difficult to control. Covid 19 is extremely infectious and coupled with it's ability to adapt to changing circumstances, could well be around for a number of years. We will not eradicate it, though it may lie dormant for a number of generations. The Black Death is still with us, though cases are thankfully low, and may well re-emerge when it has a mind to.
With the initial vaccination showing an 80% effectiveness, I for one, are confident that we are in control. One hundred thousand deaths may seem excessive but it is only .15% of the population and is comparable with the SARs outbreak of 2003.
As far as borders go, a virus does not recognise such things, and as transmission is mainly airborne now, it won't make to much difference to the war effort how much control we implement. We need to change the name from pandemic to endemic and remove the fear mongering. Let's get the country back to work and rely on common sense to protect those who are still vulnerable. Don't be daft. The NHS would be crippled. |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Jan 22 2021, 12:31 PM) The wearing of a "face muzzle" is an interesting one. Personally I consider them to be at best compliant, at worse detrimental to my health. BUT, I wear one without question when shopping or places that I am reasonably close to others because that is a government directive. (The legal aspect is a little "off white" shall we say), and it is not for me to question, well certainly not in a public arena, Like Mr Brown states, those who choose to make some form of protest or refuse to wear one on some spurious mental health grounds should be locked away for their own safety because they are probably not following all the other rules as well. The fact that the death toll continues unabated points to something being intrinsically wrong, and assuming current directives are not to blame, then it is likely to be down to noncompliance by a lot of people.. I've only seen one person not wear a mask. It's not compliance that's causing it to spread, it's the rules that allow some transmission. It's a difficult balance to strike & I think the government has got many things wrong, but it's a tricky balance to make. |

QUOTE (Mr Brown @ Jan 20 2021, 07:58 PM) It’s ok, NHS knew about the need for the closures when they agreed to use the site. Indeed a planned day or so out actually helps with performance. That the vaccine takes a fair time to produce, quite far sighted of HMG to place massive orders even before the stuff had been tested. All this known and in public domain well before start up. So, quite a remarkable achievement all round.
If you really want a cause to run with, go and give the cretins who claim they can’t wear facemasks - there are NO medical reasons not to and frankly, those who claim a mental health reason probably shouldn’t be out in public anyway. Hear, hear. |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Oct 7 2020, 11:00 AM) One can debate till the cows come home the pros and cons of present government strategy but anyone want to argue with the Lancet? https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/a...1201-0/fulltextMaybe it's time we started taking this a little more seriously? If the government could get track and trace working we'd be a lot further along. The WHO have been shouting from day 1 that this is the key. Instead of awarding contracts to their mates, they should have given the money to the NHS and local authorities. |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Sep 30 2020, 02:35 PM) I saw something the other day regarding a resurgence of stockpiling, though not sure if it was specific to an area. This could well be exacerbated due to a bad harvest this year which in turn will push the price of wheat up. If there is a run on flour by the "new cooks" that seem to be flourishing we may be in for a dodgy time, but it would only be short term. Return of the Corn Laws anyone? Tell you what, if a no deal Brexit looks likely, I will stockpile a few bits. Probably only of limited use as the main shortages food wise will be fresh goods, but I'll make sure we've got pasta and rice in abundance well before December if there's no deal by mid October. |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Sep 29 2020, 06:34 PM) Or one could equally argue that the infection rate would have been the same had we done nothing. Without a viable control model we are reliant on a speculative assessment. Any virus is completely unpredictable in it's "life cycle" owing to it's ability to mutate at whim, which is one of the reasons it is so difficult to produce a viable vaccine. The important figure is the fatality rate per 100 infected cases and that is below 1%. Highly distressing for those involved but is it really worth the hysteria when placed alongside other terminal conditions? I agree social distancing is beneficial, but surely it doesn't take a master's degree to work that one out? Smoking kills, yet they still sell cigarettes, even though their use is a personal choice, so why haven't they banned them completely, or at least legislated against their use in public? Hard to argue with some of your points but it's hard to think it wasn't the total lockdown that all but eradicated infections. You say social distancing is obvious, but it isn't to most. Especially when drinking. We had a spike after VE Day in some areas. Around 50% of people I pass make to effort to keep 2 metres. If they aren't told what to do, they're too stupid to do the right thing. On a slightly different subject. I had a chuckle on Facebook the other day when somebody blamed the "educated middle class" for panic buying. |

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Sep 29 2020, 02:03 PM) This article has some interesting facts for those who think the end is nigh. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/05/how-...19-coronavirus/For those who can't read, the global deaths form corona virus are on a par with suicide, yet very little is done to prevent such tragedies. Covid 19 is being kept in check by social distancing measures. Cases were doubling every 2/3 days in March. Think what the cases and deaths would be without those measures. |
