Varsity is closed and will reopen next Thursday as The George and Pelican.

When it reopens it will be a family-friendly pub during the day and a sort of "cocktail bar" in the evenings.

There will be a full story to follow next week so check back on newburytoday.co.uk as of Monday.

Hope this helps in the meantime.

Hi guys,

The police operation was a routine speedcheck.

Speeding in the area had apparently been highlighted as an issue by the Brimpton Neighbourhood Action Group.

As a result, between 11am and 12.15pm, six fines were issued in the 30mph zone, to drivers travelling over 40mph. Two further fines were issued to drivers using a mobile phone while driving and one for a driver not wearing a seatbelt.

Thanks Bloggo.

Anyone else know of more dodgy roads around West Berkshire? It would be interesting to know if anyone's car has actually been damaged by these potholes.

A MAN from Reading has the latest confirmed case of Swine Flu, bringing the disease even closer to West Berkshire.
The unidentified man contracted the virus after returning from the United States and is currently receiving anti-viral drugs.
NHS Berkshire West has said that his symptoms have been mild and he is recovering at home.
