QUOTE (HJD @ Jun 18 2015, 04:56 PM) Cycle Racing I mean. Where ever I go these days there seem to be more & more of them, clad in their tight Lycra peddling furiously with their nuts bulging out behind their ears. Don't get me wrong I've nothing against old Joe using his Raleigh to get to & fro from work, or even the Green family out for a nice Sunday ride in the country. No, it's the Head's down Bum up brigade swerving in & out trying to overtake each other like the ones coming down Hurstbourne Tarrant the other day ( do they ever try racing up it I wonder ! ). I note that a lot of the Cycle Racing on Public Highways Regulations date back to the 1960's, & as traffic volume has increased somewhat since then isn't it about time these events were confined to the track for everyone's safety !! There are very few cycle races on public roads. Many time trials, and even more route-following events that are non-competitive. |

QUOTE (CrackerJack @ May 11 2015, 05:35 PM) I see from the list of their contact details that at least one of the new Ward Members may have just been parachuted in from out of the area to represent the Tories for the election. Perhaps they assumed the pre-election polls were pretty much correct and didn't expect the result to go their way in a key seat? They've now found themselves unexpectedly voted in and will have to do some serious homework to learn about their area and get to know the people and the problems if they want the residents to give them the same level of support next time. Cllr Dennis Benneyworth will be representing Victoria Ward, a key town centre ward in Newbury, yet he lives in Kennedy Meadow in Hungerford (another 100m south and he'd be in Wiltshire!). He's going to have his work cut out you'd think. WBC Councillors Cllr Steve Ardagh-Walter is being secretive over where he lives but hopefully it's somewhere near Thatcham seeing as he'll be representing Thatcham West. Steve Ardagh-Walter. 11 Grassmead, Thatcham, Berkshire RG19 4FP, United Kingdom. |

QUOTE (blackdog @ Apr 28 2015, 09:32 AM) As far as I can work out of the four pictured one is against any green field development, but especially Sandleford; one is pro-Sandleford providing it is done well with a country park; and the other two want the planning system abolished to allow developers to build the huge number of houses needed without undue interference from authority.
I don't really see a party line there. I didn't say they were one party, but the story begins 'The Apolitical party, The Green Party and UKIP'. UKIP are a Party..... So none of the 'Independents' are free of a Party lead (it seems). |

QUOTE (Exhausted @ Dec 27 2014, 08:09 PM) There is no way that this application will struggle. It's a council development in all but name. This will be nursed through to conclusion. There might be a bit of blood spilt on the carpet but that will be quickly cleared up and will be presented to the nodding councillors with a recommendation for approval. The 'struggle' I refer to is based on the fact the infrastructure at present does not support the traffic plan. If the Council did not 'object' then many other plans would use the precedent. All the '106' type schemes only come in after the building plan is well on the way. Here a visionary benefactor clears the way, purely for the community benefit, by paying WBC to improve a road layout. That project does not appear on any WBC highways plan I know of, and it would take years for it to be built under usual protocols. This is a convenient way to get a plan 'approvable'. We should applaud such largesse by a local citizen. |

QUOTE (JeffG @ Dec 26 2014, 01:02 PM) So the participants would refuse to hunt foxes if the act was repealed? They are only drag hunting because if they want to follow their "sport" they are forced by law to do so. and....? If someone modifies their lifestyle to comply with the law they are still 'bad'? |
